When I used to work in HR, I had to conduct training seminars all the time. I NEVER got over my fear of public speaking, no matter what I tried. I even tried relaxation techniques beforehand. I dreaded those seminars, even if it was in front of people I already knew (in fact, that made it worse!).

My biggest problem was talking too fast, as if my brain was trying to get everything over and done in a hurry. I think some people are just not cut out for talking to groups, like me! I guess that's why I am a writer!

i saw an episode of a british comedy called "coupling" in which a guy called geoff tries the technique of imagining the audience naked to boost his confidence. all goes well, until he realises there is a mirror on the wall behind the panel he is addressing, and it all backfires on him.
