I agree. I also write for a teen site at http://homeworktips@about.com and I encourage kids and teachers to explore and experiment with learning styles. I hear back from teachers who are very interested, but the system just doesn't lend itself to teaching to the individual. I have a 5 year-old grandchild with an amazing ability to recall visual information. She draws all the time--with amazing detail. I realized this recently when she drew two logos for places that she hadn't seen for at least a year and included very small details. One was for a company we visited once. Lots of young children demonstrate amazing abilities that are ultimately squelched in public school.
