This is a wonderful article that parents, teachers, and students should read.
The sad thing is that even though we know all this things...the public education system is designed for only one style...it is no wonder that so many children never reach their learning potential. When there is only one model for success, it limits the number of success stories.

I agree. I also write for a teen site at http://homeworktips@about.com and I encourage kids and teachers to explore and experiment with learning styles. I hear back from teachers who are very interested, but the system just doesn't lend itself to teaching to the individual. I have a 5 year-old grandchild with an amazing ability to recall visual information. She draws all the time--with amazing detail. I realized this recently when she drew two logos for places that she hadn't seen for at least a year and included very small details. One was for a company we visited once. Lots of young children demonstrate amazing abilities that are ultimately squelched in public school. I'm trying to figure out how to nurture her ability.
