» Feature Writer Joni Rose - Thinking from the right or the left

Hi Grace,

Interesting read! I have long been interested in training involving creative types as I developed professional training for film, theatre, writing, music...all of the arts. I have also career coached many creative types.

I love using mind mapping and other similar techniques to help right brainers organize their thoughts. I have also taught time management to right brainers - you have to be creative with colour and visuals! Time Management for the Creative Person by Lee Silber is a great book on the subject.

Personally, I think I am on the fence - can one be ambidextrous with the halves of their brain? Ha! I am very creative but also excel in Science. For example, I have a BSc in Medical Genetics and taught kids art and creativity. My plan in high school was to become a medical illustrator but found out it would take me 8 years of university and the job prospects were limited!

Thanks for reminding me of the interesting challenges that right and left brainers face in learning!

Joni

Actually, I believe that most people who excel in business are middle-brain dominant (yes, there's a word for it). I know a few. They are very creative but they can make snap decisions and are organized & great with numbers. I, on the other hand, am so right-brained it's almost a handicap.
